Overview

Food Safety Australia (RTO 2929) is a Queensland-based Registered Training Organisation delivering Food Safety Supervisor courses across all five industry sectors. The provider holds NSW Food Authority approval number 24773, however NSW enrolments are currently paused while the provider reviews and updates their delivery materials. Verify current NSW enrolment availability directly with Food Safety Australia before enrolling.

For non-NSW states, Food Safety Australia offers a comprehensive $159 course covering all sectors, with a broad catalogue of individual unit options including HLT-coded units for health and community services and FBP-coded units for food processing businesses.

Delivery and assessment

Food Safety Australia courses are delivered online but include a workplace observation component — a practical requirement where an observer confirms you have applied food safety practices in the workplace. This is more structured than providers who require only an online knowledge assessment.

  • Format: Online modules + workplace observation + knowledge assignment
  • Duration: Approximately 6–8 hours for the online component
  • Assessment: 7 quizzes (100% required, up to 3 attempts each) + practical workplace observation + written assignment
  • Support hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm EST

Note: the workplace observation requirement may not be suitable for sole traders or business owners who cannot arrange an appropriate observer. Contact Food Safety Australia to discuss your specific situation.

Accreditation and state acceptance

Food Safety Australia is registered on the ASQA National Register under RTO number 2929. Their scope covers all major food safety units across all five sectors.

NSW: Food Safety Australia holds NSW Food Authority approval number 24773. However, NSW enrolments are currently paused while delivery materials are being updated. Do not enrol via this provider for NSW certification until enrolments resume — verify current status at foodsafety.edu.au or by calling (07) 3289 1347.

The certificate is accepted in all states and territories where the relevant unit is within their scope of registration.

Who this course suits

Health and aged care businesses (non-NSW) — The HLT-coded pathways are explicitly offered, making Food Safety Australia a clear option for aged care facilities, hospitals, and disability services outside NSW.

Food processing businesses — The FBP-coded food processing pathway is available, covering manufacturing and processing operations.

Businesses wanting structured delivery — The inclusion of workplace observation and a knowledge assignment, while more demanding than pure online assessment, reflects a more structured training approach.

Things to consider

  • NSW enrolments paused. Do not enrol via this provider for NSW certification without first verifying that enrolments have resumed.
  • Workplace observation required. This is a more involved assessment than online-only providers. Ensure you can arrange an appropriate observer before enrolling.
  • Phone support limited. Support is available Monday–Friday 9am–4pm EST only.

Data last verified: April 2026. NSW enrolments paused at time of verification — always check current status at foodsafety.edu.au before enrolling.
